Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Less than 2 weeks until I leave for Africa. I have taken care of all the big stuff I need for the trip, and now I just have to finish packing!! I am so thankful and excited for this adventure. It really is my journey of self discovery. Hopefully, I will help some people in need along the way, too!!!

Since it is Thanksgiving, I want to post about what I'm thankful for. If someone would have told me 6 months ago that I was going to be in Africa for 3 1/2 months, I would have been flabbergasted as my mother says. I really thought my life was going to turn out a certain way. Now, I'm not quite sure what my life entails. It is scary to be back at that place of not knowing what to expect, but I'm learning the importance of optimism and creating your own path in life. Since I decided to go to Africa, it has really made me evaluate my life and what is important to me. Although I have always known how amazing my family and friends are, I really have valued their support these past 2 months!

First, I just want to say, I am so thankful for my parents. They have supported me in all my dreams and have allowed me to get to the point I am at today. When I told them I wanted to be a Physical Therapist in high school, they did everything in their power to help me make that a possibility. If it wasn't for them, I would not have been able to take this career path that allows me to go to Africa.

Secondly, I have the most amazing siblings, grandparents, and extended family. I know they would do anything for me in a heartbeat. They comfort me when I need comforting. They are my biggest cheerleaders when I'm trying to achieve something.

Next, I am so thankful for my amazing friends. While, I do not always get to be near you, you have all find ways to comfort me and support me recently. This journey of self discovery is one I am doing alone but I know my friends are with me in spirit. (Hopefully, we will get to skype, too!) One of my biggest fears in life, which I have told many of you, is being alone. I have realized recently though, I have yet to find my significant other, but I will never be alone with you in my life.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who has made donations to make this trip a little more managable for me! I really really appreciate it. It will allow me to purchase a few more supplies without breaking the bank since I am foregoing an income for 4 months.

My posts will start becoming more frequent over the next couple weeks since soon I will be in Africa!! Please start checking more often. Also, please comment on here if you want. I want to make this blog as interactive as possible so you can learn from my journey, too!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Thank you, Thank you for supporting me and being in my life!

Love, Kari
